Sala Bai Success Stories

Changing the world one student at a time

A Sala Bai Story

“Sala Bai is fighting human trafficking by addressing extreme poverty and its consequences with a free education and guaranteed employment to youth at-risk. This uniquely holistic approach benefits all involved — the students, the families, the local economy and the hospitality industry!

Watch this touching video about Khatna, a young Cambodian girl living in poverty in a rural fishing village and be inspired by her transnational journey.”

Chiieng Mey, a housekeeping student and Morn, a restaurant student, are both looking back on their experience in Sala Baï. From the start of school in September 2013 to their graduation at the end of July 2014, a whole new world opened up to them. At the dawn of their new life, these two students relate how they lived this training year.

“At 13, I had to stop school because my parents couldn’t afford it anymore. I worked in the fields and as a construction worker for several years. Studying at Sala Bai changed my life. I now work as a Patisserie chef and make over 300$/month. Thanks to me, my little brother can go to school. I am also saving some money, I want to open my own bakery one day!”’
